Option One: Setting up your Microsoft provided work PC
Important
- Before you begin your device setup using the following steps, please register for phone authentication.
- If you don't have an internet connection when setting up your device, you won't be able to join Azure Active Directory, which is necessary for accessing some internal Microsoft sites and resources.
New device out-of-box

For brand new Microsoft issued laptop with "Your Out-of-the-box" setup, please follow below instructions:
- Plug the power cord into your computer, then plug it into an electrical outlet.
- Turn on the power for your device.
- The first screen you will see is a screen that prompts you to identify the region for your device. Select your region and then select "Yes".
- Next, you see a prompt for the keyboard layout. Select your region and then select "Yes".
- Windows will ask you if you want to choose another keyboard layout. Select Skip.
- Next, you will connect to a Wi-Fi network. Choose your preferred network and select Connect. Below are some network examples, but your options may also include a home network or other local Wi-Fi networks or "MSFTGuest" if connecting device from Microsoft campus.
Note
If your device is not already registered for the Autopilot setup process, you will see this prompt and should select Set up for an organization.
On the Microsoft authentication screen, enter your Microsoft email address.Note
If you see a Local Admin Account setup screen, you are no longer connected to the internet and must reconnect to the network before you can proceed.

You will need to go through the phone authentication process once more for Azure Active Directory authentication. Then, you will be prompted to enter your email address and password.

Next, select Sign in with your phone or token device to use the phone authentication option.
Once you have successfully completed your phone authentication step, you will see an option to Continue anyway—select it.Note
This prompt might appear again, and you should again select Continue Anyway.
- Next you will see a prompt to configure Windows Hello. Select Set up to configure now or select Skip for now (on the left) to complete the setup later.
When you set up Windows Hello, you will be prompted to create a PIN. Select Set up PIN.
Once you have successfully set up your PIN, go to your device's desktop and navigate to the Start button, where you can continue to configure Outlook, OneDrive for Business, and install other apps.
Workplace Join. This will require a Windows Pro license.
- Open Settings
- Select Accounts
- Select Access work
- Select Connect.
- On the Set up a work or school account screen, select Join this device to Azure Active Directory.
- On the Let's get you signed in screen, type your email address (for example, alias@microsoft.com), and then select Next.
- On the Enter password screen, type your password, and then select Sign in.
Option Two: Microsoft Virtual Desktop (MVD)
Follow these steps below MVD allows you to easily and securely access corporate applications, data, and resources from any device, anywhere.
FTE
As part of joining Microsoft as a FTE, you are provided with a Virtual Desktop. If you do not yet have a Microsoft managed device, you can still access Microsoft resources with your own device via MVD.
Non-FTE
If you do not yet have a dedicated Microsoft device, you can still access Microsoft resources via your own personal device via MVD.
As a vendor, you will need to request a virtualized desktop. Your manager/FTE sponsor can request you to be provisioned with a virtual desktop by submitting a request in IDWeb.
Once you've been notified that you've been approved, follow these steps below to easily and securely access corporate applications, data, and resources from any device, anywhere.
Install the Microsoft Virtual Desktop Client for your device
- Windows
- Android
- MacOS
- Apple iOS
- Web Version
Using Microsoft Virtual Desktop Client
- Launch the Microsoft Remote Desktop application.
- Next click on the vDesktop Icon in the region that is geographically closest to you.
- You will be prompted to log in.
- To login use your alias to sign in (example alias@microsoft.com)
- Once logged in, you can start using MVD!
Using Microsoft Virtual Desktop Web
- Launch the Microsoft Remote Desktop web version.
- Next click on the vDesktop Icon in the region that is geographically closest to you.
- You will be prompted to log in.
- To login use your alias to sign in (example alias@microsoft.com)
- Once logged in, you can start using MVD!
